Has anyone used Naltrexone for autoimmune disease in dogs. I have a dog with Iodiopathic Thrombocytopenia and she does not tolerate Prednisone. We have been trying to stabilize her for a year now, with poor results. Long term use of steroids is not working, and she is not feeling well. I would like to consider Naltrexone at a future time, once we have her meds stabilized and her platelets normal . Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
my 1 1/2 yr old german shepard had terrible IBS. For over a year he had constant diarrhea. My vet had tried everything- even chinese medications to no avail. After my doctor narrowed down all other causes- he told me he felt it was an auto-immune condition. At that point, I knew I was going to give him LDN (which I have been taking with great success for almost 4 years). My vet read me the riot act-- he had never heard of LDN-- and my dog was so thin- he felt I would be endangering his live. My vet wanted to start him on chemo. I took him off all meds- I got the 50 mg Naltrexone tablets thru India. Followed directions on this site- and gave him 2 mg a nite. After the very first night his diarrhea stopped and he has never had that problem again. That was over a year ago. My dog also gained 25 lbs within the first 2 months. I have him on LDN nightly. He takes no other meds or special food other than that. I went back to my vet who was astounded. I also gave my vet a whole packet of info on LDN. Hopefully he is prescribing for other pets in his care. I would say that if your dog is under 40 - 50 lbs- you may need to reduce to 1.5 mg. Hope this info helps.
