My dog was dx'd w/ Lymphosarcoma B cell type 7/09. We're using an integrative vet who is willing to let us try LDN. He called in an Rx to one of the Compounding Pharmacies on Bilari's list. He did'nt know the dosage and quartered the adult human dose of 4 mg. So it's .2 something. I ordered it in solution, chicken flavored. Now, I read how important it is to make sure the correct dose is taken. How would I know with my dog?
His lymph nodes are growing again. The vet says he doesn't expect them to shrink with LDN (which he has used for canine cancer a few times already). Any ideas how to monitor progress?
He is also pushing chemo again. We did 3 different chemo meds with hardly any side effects...at the time. I just don't like them and don't want to use them again. The vet seems to think my dog will only improve with LDN in combo with chemo drugs. He sites that humans w/ cancer using LDN were also taking other things, so.... Does anyone have any experience in this regard or resources to recommend? He wants me to bring Finster in next week for the chemo. I told him I will think about it over the weekend. In the meantime, the LDN should be here in a couple of days. How long does it take to boost the immune system so benefit is achieved?
And once you begin LDN, do you have to stay on it....forever?
How much does your dog weigh? Chemo will wipe out most all effect of the LDN.
Here's how Bihari adjusts LDN for a child... Dr. Bihari's approach to use of LDN in children has apparently been effective -- the LDN dose is reduced proportional to the childs's weight. Thus a 60 pound child would receive about one-half the adult dose: 2mg each night at 9pm, try 10pm during Daylight Saving Time(spring/summer) in USA to be on the safe side.
Cancer tumors don't start to shrink until 4 months into LDN treatment. They may even continue to grow a little in the 1st few months but get the CherryFlex and give them like pills. This should help compliment the LDN in combatting the cancer.
Thanx for all the responses and tips. My dog weighs 10 lbs and I got my LDN delivered today. It's 0.25 mg/1ml in solution. The dosage instructions reads to give him 1 ml at bedtime.
I'm going to give it to him for the first time tonight. What do you think about my vet's dosage? He was unsure, so I want to check with those more experienced.
Thank you for the suggestion for using Tart Cherry. Being a powerful antioxidant, my vet said to be careful using them as they can protect cancer cells as well as healthy cells. I feel caught in this controversy. Since Lymphoma is cancer of the immune system, he advises me to only use products that modulate, as opposed to stimulate the immune system. In case a product stimulates the cancer to grow. Any thoughts about this in light of your experience with LDN?
